Dr. Pratibha Ray received 47th Jnanpith Award for the year 2011 from President Pranab Mukherjee
at a function inthe Balyogi Auditorium here on Wednesday. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 11 lakh, a citation and a bronze replica of Goddess Saraswati. Ray is the fourth Odia to receive the award after Sitakant Mahapatra(1993), Sachidananda Rout Roy (1986) and Gopinath Mohanty (1973). One of her most acclaimed works ‘Yajnaseni’ fetched her the Bharatiya Jnanpith Trust’s Moorti Devi Award in 1991.
She started her professional career as a school teacher and after it she taught in various Government Colleges in Odisha for a span of thirty years. She took voluntary retirement as a Professor of Education from State Government Service in 1998 and joined as Member, Public Service Commission of Odisha State, a prestigious constitutional post. She completed a full tenure of six years efficiently and honestly. She has proved her efficiency, integrity and sincerity both in teaching and administration.

Pratibha Ray'll get Sahitya Bharati Samman for the year 2016 from the Gangadhar Rath Foundation Trust. On 13th March famous writer Padma Bibhusan Seetakanta Mohapatra will give the prize at a function at Bhubaneswar.
