Odisha received India Today Special Jury Award
Odisha received India Today Special Jury Award for successfull handling of cyclone 2014. Surya Naryan Patro(Revenue and Disaster Management Minister) received the award at India Today Conclave 2013 for Odisha govt. This function was held at Hyatt Regency, New Delhi. The award was given for creating public awareness in a very short time about the coming danger of cyclone in the districts of the state. Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force(ODRAF) formed by state govt, monitored a close watch on cyclone Phailin Oct 8 onwards, ensuring the safe movement more than one million people to cyclone shelters and minimising the loss of lives in the affected areas.
