Bhubaneswar: A regional workshop on the Technology Mission on Oilseed and Oil palm was organised by the agriculture department sponsored by the Centre here on Thursday.
The aim of the workshop is to increase the productivity of oilseed and oil palm and also to achieve self-sufficiency in edible oil
Inaugurating the workshop, agriculture minister Damodar Rout said that in the 1980s Odisha had stood second in the groundnut production in India, but latter declined.
At present, the production of the edible oil is insufficient to meet the market, though the state has a lot of scope to nourish it, he observed.
Rout also said that the edible oil does not come under food security despite being essential and to face the problem, the availability and productivity should go together.
