PMO again calls meet on Posco

Post by kartik »

Bhubanewswar: The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has convened a meeting on June 15 to assess the progress of Posco project which is facing stiff resistance from local people over land acquisition.

This is the second meeting convened by the PMO to monitor the progress of the project.
Besides delay in land acquisition, non-availability of iron ore mines has become a major stumbling block for the project.

Two out of three mines identified by the State Government for Posco-India are under litigation. What has landed both the State Government and Posco-India in trouble is most of the 1,135 acres of land sanctioned for the project is forest land. The State Government had to admit in the Assembly that land for the project has been identified and sanctioned in haste. Land for compensatory afforestation has been identified and the State Government would soon file a petition in this regard in the Supreme Court.
