Tomorrow, on 23rd October 2014, the festival Mahalaya will be observed.
Mahalaya is the last day of Pitru paksha. On this day, doing the Shradha is considered as very sacred. It is also the day of remembrance of ancesters. Pitru Paksha or Apara paksha is a 16–lunar day period when Hindus do tarpan, shraaddha and pinda daan daily according to the procedures under the guidance of a priest. They pay homage to their ancestors. They offer food to them.
