In Puri, near to the Jagannath Temple( in between the sea and the Jagannath temple) is a small temple, named as temple of Bedi hanuman or chained hanuman, which has an interesting story behind it.
Hanuman(monkey-god) is the devotee of Lord Rama\Jagannath. He stands chained( so he can not go any where & can do his duty sincerely) to a stake on the shore preventing Varuna( the god of sea) from encroaching on the land.
Thus, the sea has stayed where it was and the Jagannath temple is safe.(it is from the mythology)

It is quite interesting that, Hanuman has chained here to keep away the sea from the jagannath temple. God hanuman has chained, so that he can not go anywhere leaving his duty to save the temple from the waves of the sea.
