Fakir Mohan Senapati

Post by srinidhi »

The works of Fakir Mohan Senapati are awesome. I have read some of them but all were abridged versions. And the best one I remember is: Chha Mana Atha Guntha (Six Acres and a Half, 1897), dealing with the exploitation of the peasants by a zamindar, is a classic in Indian literature.

(Kanaka Upatyaka ra kahani)Legend of the Golden Valley

Post by Deep »

A must read is : Kanaka Upatyaka ra Kahani (Legend of the Golden Valley) -By Manoj Das
And don't read the english version. (translated by Manoj Das himself)

The Best copy of the oriya version was on Janhamaamu (Chandamama) issues in the eighties with nice illustrations and expressions! Real Gems! Dont worry. I'll try to get them for posting here at Orissa Forum(How about a special section for Oriya reading, admins?)

--Janhamamun--

Post by orissaguide »

It makes me nostalgic of golden childhood days..when I think
of the stories I was reading in Janhamamun. The prime
story in it, which is published serially,
is the most enticing of all...

To add more to the list apart from Kanaka Upatyakara Kahani,

1. Dhusara Durga
2. Maya Sarobara
3. Pancha Prasna
4. Apurbanka Parakram
5. Banhi Dwipa

These stories came at the end of eighties and early nineties..I dont
remember the stories prior to that.

Though I am not sure about who was the author, as it is usually not
mentioned in the magazine, the language, context and fluency gives a
Manoja Das feel.

Before coming to the favourite author, I must say this is a great idea of a thread. I hope all users of the forum get excited about sharing and contributing on this thread.
About authors, instead of naming one as 'favourite' I'd like to list a few authors and books that have excited me the most:

- Surendra Mohanty (Shatabdira Surya, Nilashailya, Niladri Bijaya and also his autobiography).
- JP Das (Desha Kala Patra)
- Gopinath Mohanty (Mati Matala and his Collection of Short Stories)

I must pay my tribute to the authors that provided us with all the thrills during school days; especially Bhupen Goswami and Kanduri Charan Das.

I like to read the writings of both Prativa roy and Manoj Das .
In our school course ,we were reading a story of Manoj das,
that is LAXMI,s ADVENTURE .
This story was touching to my heart.
